Our Story
History of Newcastle Thunder
Newcastle Thunder formed in 1999, in the Super League era that began in 1996. Since then, summer rugby league has brought new clubs and new fans into the sport.
That gives the club more than 20 years of rugby in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear. In addition, generations of local players, coaches and volunteers have shaped its story.
